Current VPASS Facility Status by Institution

Check this page regularly for updates on the status of visiting at each state institution. Every prison has visiting on Saturdays, Sundays, and four holidays during each calendar year (New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day). Events that may impact visiting include medical quarantines and modified programs.

Visits vary by institution but usually begin between 7:30 a.m. and end between 2 and 3 p.m. To find out the days and visiting hours for the prison you are going to visit, call 1-800-374-8474.

MCSP Visiting Status - COVID-19

As of 05/19/2020 and part of CDCR's COVID-19 prevention efforts, normal visiting will be cancelled statewide until further notice. This includes non-contact visits and overnight family visits. Legal visits will be held as scheduled. For more visiting information, please visit the CDCR Visitor's webpage, at ttp://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors. As of August 1, 2020, the Department of Rehabilitation will begin the process to have the cashless payment system removed from the vending machines at your facility. All cardholders will have one hundred-twenty (120) days to return their cards for a full refund. To receive a refund for Cashless Cards purchased at Mule Creek State Prison ONLY please refer to the following: a request for refund must be mailed to the address printed on the back of the card: Catanzerites Foodservice P.O. Box 1238, Ione, CA 95640. A self-addressed, stamped envelope must be included with the refund request. If no envelope is included, the refund may be subject to a one dollar ($1.00) handling fee which will be deducted from the card refund. The refund request must include a legible name, address and the readable cashless card or cards containing balances. Refunds will not be given to cards purchased at any institution other than Mule Creek State Prison. Cards that are not readable, damaged or altered in any way will not be subject to refund and will not be returned.

CDCR recognizes the value of inmate visitation as a means of maintaining family and community ties and preparing inmates for successful release back into society. At this time, CDCR must take extreme precautionary measures in order to protect the health and wellness of all who live, work, and visit within our institutions and make every effort in stopping the spread.

Welcome to the Visitor Processing Appointment Scheduling System (VPASS) for Valley State Prison (VSP) in Chowchilla, California. ***ATTENTION ALL VISITORS*** As part of CDCR’s COVID-19 prevention efforts, ALL VISITING including NON-CONTACT and FAMILY VISITING will be CANCELLED statewide until further notice. CDCR values visitation as an essential part of rehabilitation, but at this time the Department must make difficult decisions in order to protect the health and wellness of all who live in, work in, and visit state prisons. Open parking will be rotated between areas. VSP uses cashless vending machines which utilize reloadable vending cards. The machine which dispenses the vending cards only accepts $1 and $5 dollar bills. Visiting is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and the following holidays: New Year’s Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, from 08:30am to 3:00pm. Visiting appointments become available on Mondays each week at 12:01am for the following 30 days. Walk-ins will be processed on a first come, first served basis. The VSP visiting appointment phone number is 559-665-6100 ext. 8950. This number will be answered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Important health information for visitors As part of CDCR’s COVID-19 prevention efforts, normal Visiting and the Family Visiting Program will be CANCELLED statewide until further notice. If you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, please do not enter a CDCR institution, either to visit a loved one or to take part in a program or event. Any illness that is spread from person to person can develop very quickly in a correctional environment, which puts all who live, work, and visit at risk. Please protect yourself and others and return to the institution when you are no longer displaying symptoms.
